The legendary shojo manga Boys Over Flowers, widely known as F4 in Thailand, will be brought to the stage by the All-Women Performers Takarazuka Revue.

Starring “Chisei Akatsuki”, the top star of Takarazuka Revue Hoshi-Gumi (Star Troupe) – Premiering June 28th at SF WORLD CINEMA, CentralWorld.

Bangkok, June 8, 2026 - If you are a musical enthusiast, you must have heard of the renowned the All-Women Performers Takarazuka Revue from Japan. Soon, they are set to bring back the excitement and enchantment once again with the “Takarazuka Revue Star Troupe Misonoza Theater Performance “Boys Over Flowers Ⅱ” Live Viewing,” marking its first-ever screening in Thailand.

The production is the Top Star* of the “Hoshi-Gumi (Star Troupe)”, Chisei Akatsuki, along with other members of the Hoshi-Gumi (Star Troupe). The performance will be broadcast via Live Viewing on Sunday, June 28th at SF WORLD CINEMA, CentralWorld.

*In the Takarazuka Revue, a "Top Star" refers to the leading actress of each troupe.

“Boys Over Flowers” is a legendary shojo manga masterpiece by author Yoko Kamio. It tells the story of high school romance between Tsukasa Domyoji, the billionaire heir and leader of the "F4" group, and Tsukushi Makino, a commoner girl attending the same elite school. This work has achieved overwhelming success both in Japan and internationally and has been adapted into various media formats. In 2019, it was adapted into a musical by the Takarazuka Revue, starring Rei Yuzuka, which received an excellent reception.

The sequel, “Boys Over Flowers II,” continues with an intense storyline. Although the two are now in a relationship, they must face numerous challenges and obstacles. However, these trials only serve to make their bond stronger and more profound than before, all portrayed through a musical filled with romantic-drama emotions.

Synopsis - Takarazuka Revue

● A Flash of Inspiration: The Beginnings

The Takarazuka Revue was founded by Kobayashi Ichizō, whose contributions include growing the Hankyu Railway, opening the Hankyu Department Store (which was also Japan’s first department store built inside a train terminal), and also assisted in the establishment of the Toho Group. He opened the Takarazuka Shin-Onsen hot spring resort in 1911 as an effort to increase domestic tourism along the Hankyu train lines. Unfortunately, the resort had to close after two months. That is when the idea of using this venue to provide theatrical entertainment struck Kobayashi, and the Takarazuka Revue was born.

The first performance was held on April 1, 1914 in Paradise Theater, the indoor pool that was converted into a theater hall.

● All-Women Performers:

One of the most unique aspects of the Takarazuka Revue is that all theatrical company members are women. As such, women play both male and female roles on stage.

Actresses who specialize in male roles are called otokoyaku, while their female counterparts are the musumeyaku.

The otokoyaku specialize in presenting as men on stage, while the musumeyaku help the masculine traits stand out more by emphasizing their own femininity.

● The Five Troupes and Senka

Currently Takarazuka Revue has five troupes: Flower, Moon, Snow, Star and Cosmos. In addition, there is also the group called Senka, or the Superior Members, with the most experienced actresses who often have a long history with Takarazuka.

Each troupe has its own distinctive charm that they emphasize through their performances, so everyone can surely find something that fits their tastes.

The first two troupes, Flower and Moon were established seven years after the first Takarazuka performance, in 1921. More troupes were created in the following years as the demand for Takarazuka shows increased.

Today, around eighty actresses are assigned to each troupe. In order to become a Takarasienne, aspiring actresses must first pass the Takarazuka Music School examinations, and finish the two-year course that provides an education in the performing arts. After graduation, actresses have their debut show in the Grand Theater. After their debut, they are assigned to a troupe where they begin their quest for stardom.
